Slovakia Will Strengthen Control Over The Quality and Transit of Ukrainian Grain

Slovakia plans to strengthen control over the quality and transit of grains imported from Ukraine to protect the local market. This was stated by the Secretary General of the Service Department of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Nouzovska, reports teraz.sk.

“Wheat, corn, oilseeds or flour imported from Ukraine must meet the same quality and safety criteria as the products of our manufacturers. We are starting to jointly supervise the movement of these goods in Slovakia in cooperation with the financial service with the participation of our controlling authorities,” Z. Nouzovskaya said at a press conference on April 5.

In particular, she explained, representatives of the Slovak financial service at the border will put seals on all consignments of grain crops in transit to other countries through the territory of Slovakia. Consignments destined for Slovakia will be tested for pesticides and other substances.

“We believe that in this way we will ensure control over all imported grain crops, not only to protect the domestic, but also the open European market,” the ministry representative added.

It is also noted that the issue of Ukrainian wheat exports was raised by Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger during his meeting last week with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In particular, E. Heger insisted on the need to take measures so that wheat from Ukraine does not remain on the European market and does not discriminate against local producers. According to the Slovak government, V. Zelensky promised to negotiate with exporters so that they do not abuse the situation.
