Arsenal ‘Make Approaches’ to Sign Brazilian Ace with £66m Clause Ahead of Transfer Window

Arsenal are interested in signing Porto winger Pepe this summer, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

They have claimed that the Gunners have ‘made approaches’ to sign the 26-year-old, who is said to have a €75 million (£66m) release clause in his contract with the Portuguese giants. The report goes on to say that Porto are in need of cash this summer, with clubs from France and Spain also interested in acquiring Pepe at the end of the current campaign.

The Brazilian has notched five goals and provided a further nine assists across all competitions this season, as per Transfermarkt. However, it remains to be seen just how firm Arsenal’s reported interest in Pepe is considering they already have a wealth of options in attack.

Mikel Arteta already has Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Reiss Nelson as wide options while Gabriel Jesus has also previously deputised on the flanks during his time with Manchester City. Arsenal had been pursuing a move for young winger Mykhailo Mudryk during the January transfer window before the Ukranian international eventually joined London rivals Chelsea instead.

The Gunners then decided to make a move for the aforementioned Trossard, who has been an instant hit at the Emirates Stadium – scoring once and providing an impressive seven assists from just 11 Premier League outings since joining.
